The St. Regis New York hotel is an exceptional city hotel with classic luxury. This category 8 hotel running at a minimum of a ~$1,000-1500 per night was a no-brainer to book on points for an extended long weekend in the city. As you might be aware, Marriott is offering redemption rates for category 8 hotels for the price of 7 until early 2019. That means this hotels was 60K per night, vs 90K or 48K per night for 5 nights (5th night free).
As a Marriott Platinum Premier Elite with Ambassador member, I was still given a lot of my benefits including an upgrade (depending on availability), early check-in and late check-out, welcome “gift” including breakfast either in the room or at their restaurant, etc. The people that helped me check in were exceptional and answered all my questions about the hotel and a little bit about the city.
As one would expect, the service at The St. Regis was exceptional. The hotel offers 24 hour “butler” service to help you with all your needs. They provide complementary tea/coffee service once a day, 2 pressed items and a shoe shine. They also can help you with room service, unpacking, packing and much more.
For my welcome “gift” I chose the breakfast. We ate in the room and at the hotel restaurant called Astor Court. For room service, we were allowed to choose the American Breakfast worth $49 per person or anything equivalent to that off the menu. The same applied in the restaurant. The American breakfast was large and came with a selection of pastries and of course coffee and/or tea.
Another complementary service they have is a car service. But this is a St. Regis so the complementary car service is a Bentley Mulsanne with the license plate “ST REGIS”. This car service will take you within 1/2 mile from the hotel or about 10 blocks. Our driver was very nice and professional of course.
This hotel offers a variety of rooms including specialty suites such as the Bentley, Dior, Tiffany and Milano suites. Even their standard rooms are classic luxury. The only complaint I had about the hotel was that a lot of the floors had a cigarette smell. I was at least warned by the front desk about this and was given the impression it was because of all the diplomats that were there and leaving after the UN General Assembly. Luckily our room was not effected but there should be something done to help prevent this.
My biggest complaint was the following. The standard rooms offer minimal daylight because of the location of the rooms (not really their fault) but the biggest issue I had was with the smoking. We declined an upgrade because of the cigarette smoke. More needs to be done here as I lost out because they decided not to enforce the rules of the previous guests. This is really inexcusable.
