Review: The Residence Inn/Manhattan Times Square

It’s what you want because its practical but service is horrible. Unfortunately my 10 night stay at this Residence Inn Manhattan Times Square hotel was not very good. It did have some upsides including its location and a breakfast option if you manage to get there in time! This is far from luxury compared to the St. Regis in NYC!

Services: 3/10
Amenities: 5/10
Location: 9/10

Service

From the start of check-in service was dismal. We were travelling with a baby and they simply weren’t helpful. When we arrived, no one even helped us with the doors or anything as staff stood around staring at us as we struggled to push our way through the doors. Once inside, our check-in process was simple and straight forward. We got up to our room and noticed that there wasn’t a crib like I requested ahead of time and at check-in. Upon calling down it seemed to be a “big deal” to bring us a crib.

Throughout the stay we didn’t ask for much. As this was at the beginning of COVID we didn’t use housekeeping that much but on the few times we requested additional towels, etc. they were pleasent about it.

Upon check-out the dismal service continued. We had a trolley with all our stuff, baby in hand, pushing our way through the doors as staff continued to be memorized by us. It was ultimately our taxi driver that saw us, got out of his car and helped us from the door to the car and all of our luggage.

Amenities

The amenities were pretty typical of a residence in. The room wasn’t as spacious but its pretty typical of a New York City hotel. There was a kitchenette with a sink, cutlery and a fridge. You would need to request a hot-plate to cook anything as there was no stove available. The hotel has a restaurant and bar area which was half decent. This is also the same place where the continental breakfast is.

Bryant Park Lounge

The bar, lounge and business centre is all on the same floor and in the same area. This may both some folks but there is plenty of seating and space for everyone. Everything is on the floor where the Bryant Lounge is.

Everyone receives continental breakfast. The choices are not bad. It does get busy especially when its approaching the end of time. My only complaint is that they start shutting down before 10AM for example which is annoying when you are trying to finish your meal or grab a quick bite. However, the options for breakfast are pretty standard to other Residence Inns including:

  • Waffles
  • Cereal
  • Yogurt
  • Eggs and Sausage
  • Fruit
  • Bread Assortment
  • Coffee
  • Tea
  • Juice

Location

Situated in Manhattan and near Times Square, the location of the hotel offers easy access to Bryant Park Metro station where you can quickly hop on the Subway. You are also within walking distance to many great areas of NYC including food and entertainment. In typical New York fashion, its busy but that is normal. Across the street from the hotel there is a pizza by the slice joint that offers a nice midnight snack!
