The Westin Lombard in Lombard, Illinois has been my home for over two years and as a business traveller it is important to know which hotels do the best to make your home away from home as pleasant as possible. If you stay there long enough the staff may send you your own robe, towel or gift that is personalized. There is nothing too fancy about the hotel but it does offer a couple of good restaurants and meeting rooms but the highlight is the consistency of the rooms and the staff.
TTST Recommendation: Good For Business Travel
The Great:
- The staff are very pleasant and they get to know you quickly. They truly make an effort to ensure that everything is perfect for your work week.
- SPG Recognition – They always recognize your status and as a Platinum member I do receive room upgrades most weeks including suites such as the Governor and Presidential Suites. Late checkout and my-24 have never been rejected.
- Speedy check-in, they usually remember what you like and pre-assign a room for you.
- Restaurants – two including Harry Carey’s Steakhouse
- Lounge – Yes however see below. The lounge staff however are very helpful. They have also switched to Pepsi products for those who care.
- Parking – there is covered parking for those cold Chicago winters. No more cleaning off your car in the morning.
- Pool – There is a large pool and hot tub however I have never used it
- Gym – decent size with a fair bit of treadmills, bikes, etc.
- Rooms – always clean and comfortable.
Needs Improvement:
- The lounge is not open 24 hours like other hotels. This can be disappointing especially if you just want a bottle of water.
- The breakfast in the lounge is poor. Essentially they have porridge, fruit, sweets, however they do have a Starbucks coffee machine (the hot chocolate is poor).
- Dinner – this can be alright and depending can actually be a decent meal. They usually try to change it up which is nice to see.
- Rooms – this is small but the alarm clocks very. It would be nice if they just standardized them to a single clock/radio that had the USB and Bluetooth option.
For those interested in what the hotel looks like, please see my photos below. These are of the Governor Suite which is essentially the same as the Presidential Suite except the bedroom.
