Review: Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa

We recently stayed at the Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa. Overall the resort was very nice with excellent landscaping, however Maldivian developments south of the island have created a eye sore for those who have the Beach Cottages or other rooms facing south. Also, the main beach is also located on the south side. The good news is that in talking with the hotel they are using the barriers that protect the beach and planting palm trees and other greenery to minimize eyesore.

The staff were really nice, we booked a room on points for 150K for 8 nights and I applied my suite night awards as well. We were originally given the beachfront cottage. The room itself was very nice but the views (facing south) were unpleasent. For the rest of the stay they moved us to the Oceanfront Villa which was paradise.

TTST RecommendationNo, location faces industrial views, and for its cost it is probably better to go somewhere else.

SPG Recognition:

  • Suite Nights – Yes
  • Room Upgrade – Yes, we got upgraded to the Ocean Villa
  • Welcome Gift – yes, chose the breakfast for the buffet
  • Late Checkout – Yes, they gave us until 8PM
  • My 24 – No due to high season but ultimately gave us late checkout

The good:

  • Friendly staff
  • Choice of restaurants are decent
  • Beautiful landscaping
  • Rooms are magnificent
  • SPG status was honoured (late checkout, Suite night upgrades, etc.)
  • Lounge with beer, wine and spirits
  • They put lots of water in your room (they constantly put 8-10 bottles without us asking)

The not so good:

  • No dedicated concierge. Have to go to multiple people for different activity types.
  • South side views are horrible
  • Service can be inconsistent
  • Besides Indian, Thai and Maldivian food, other choices are hit and miss’
  • Nice beach poor views

Tips:

  • Make sure you have a room facing North or East which are unobstructed
  • Lounge breakfast includes items that can be ordered off the menu
  • In-room dining is the same costs as Sand Coast. They do a good job at setting up your patio table and making it a romantic night
