For the business traveller sometimes simpler is better for your weekly stay. The Sheraton in Brooklyn is a decent sized hotel that offers the basics. If you are going to stay here expect only the basics. The hotel is clean and the staff are friendly, however the hotel is dated. As of writing this I haven’t stayed at the Aloft which is next door (literally) but I have heard that its more “up to date”. By no means is this a bad hotel but set your expectations appropriately if staying here.
The Good:
The best thing is that the hotel is relatively convenient to get to from LGA, staff are pleasant and there is easy access to the metro. Oh and for those Starbucks fans, there is one inside the hotel. My thoughts are below:
- Polite and friendly staff
- Clean rooms
- Dedicated shower
- 24-hour lounge
- Close access to the subway
- Starbucks is inside the hotel 😀
- Easy to get to from LGA
The Not So Good:
These are things that can really irk a person staying in a hotel. This hotel has a few quirks but in general the rooms are small for Brooklyn and the furniture/decor is dated. Other challenges are listed here.
- Small rooms for Brooklyn
- Furniture is dated
- A lot of rooms are close to the elevator
- Internet access expires every 24 hours; you cannot select your checkout date during login
- After 5 consecutive weeks of staying there, I have not received a room upgrade as of yet
- Lounge food is poor, repetitive and boring
- For some reason there is no dresser
The Lounge:
I’m a big fan of lounges. The benefit of this one is that it’s accessible 24-hours a day which is great if you need a water, pop or coffee anytime of the day. For breakfast they always have scrambled eggs, bacon/sausages, and fried potatoes. This easily gets boring but at least there is something right? In addition, they have the traditional hot porridge, fruit, bagels and muffins. Dinner is usually a pasta of some sort but I haven’t made it up there too often. At the end of the day, it is basic and has the bare minimums.
